What is Scholar Dollars NMSU? ›

Scholar Dollar$ is the singular application used by students and staff at New Mexico State University for processing, awarding and applying for scholarships.

Scholarship Description

Awards range from $2,000 – $4,000 per student. In order to be eligible for Dollars for Scholars scholarships, you need to have a Dollars for Scholars affiliate serving your area.

Application must be typed or printed neatly. 2) Current high school or college transcript 3) Two (2) current Letters of Recommendation from school faculty, staff, administration or community member (not related to student).

Legislative Lottery Scholarship

New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, NM-HiSET, or Confirmation of Registration with PED. Must enroll in college within 16 months after high school graduation or receipt of GED/HiSET. First-semester college GPA of 2.5 and pass 15 credits.

Students who hold a GPA between 3.5 to 4.0 may distinguish themselves to institutions awarding academic scholarships. Since many students may receive high GPAs, colleges often grant scholarships to those who meet other criteria in addition to having a high GPA.

The Scholars Program philosophy is to promote mastery of subject matter demonstrated through writing, exposure to research, critical thinking, and analysis. Scholars courses are taught by faculty that are highly recommended by their respective departments and their students.

The average scholarship amount is $5,000 to $10,000 annually. These scholarships are typically available through the college you are planning on attending. Community partners and professional organizations offer them as well.

Scholarships must almost always be used to pay for college-related costs like tuition and room and board. Since you will generally not receive more scholarship money than is needed to cover the cost of your tuition, you should generally use all the money to pay for your college costs.

Scholarships that pay for qualified educational expenses at qualified educational institutions generally don't count as taxable income. Scholarships are tax-free only if the student is a degree-seeking candidate, attends a qualified educational institution, and the funds are used for qualified education expenses.

How hard is it to get presidential scholar? ›

However, these test scores are the deciding factor in becoming a presidential scholar. Candidates should aim for a nearly perfect score of 1600 on the SAT or a 36 on the ACT. If you are not satisfied with your current highest score, you can always retake the SAT/ACT to aim even higher.

If you are a New Mexico resident who recently graduated from high school or a GED program, the New Mexico Lottery Scholarship could cover up to 100% of your bachelor's degree tuition.

Crimson Scholars Program: Crimson Scholars is a benefits and recognition program for students of exceptional academic achievement who have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and are taking three or more credits per semester¹.

Odds of Winning a Scholarship

Only about 1 in 8 college students wins a scholarship, and the average amount used to pay for college is about $4,200 a year. Very few students win $25,000 or more in scholarships each year (only about 0.1%). Among the students who win scholarships, 97% win $2,500 or less.

To be eligible for the Crimson Scholars Program, students must be degree-seeking. New Freshmen (27 credits or less) are eligible with: a minimum ACT standard composite score of 26 or better OR a minimum SAT score of 1240 or better OR a 3.75 or better high school GPA.

The ScholarShare Investment Board sets investment policies and oversees all activities of ScholarShare 529, the state's 529 college investment plan. The program enables Californians to save for college by putting money in tax-advantaged investments.

Alumni Student Scholar Program applicants must be South Dakota residents, must be graduating seniors enrolled in a South Dakota high school, must have, as a minimum, a combined score of 1240 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT, and must attend the University of South Dakota for their undergraduate degree.
